The Youth Environmental Action Fund can provide up to 100% funding and support to young people to set up and deliver their own small scale environmental projects that:

  • Improve or enhance the local natural environment or
  • Develop environmental awareness in local communities.

Since the Youth Fund started in 2017 it has supported 33 projects, given out £26,500 and engaged more than 2,000 young people! We've helped young people to get a wide variety of inspiring projects off the ground, from an eco-festival and BioBlitz to recycling schemes and wildlife gardens.    

Can you apply?

Grants can be used for all kinds of activities: to run events, meetings or workshops, or purchase resources for practical environmental work. You can apply for 100% of the total project cost, from £50 up to a maximum of £1,000.  

To apply you must be:

  • Aged 11-24 years
  • Based in the Yorkshire Dales National Park or areas of North Yorkshire, Lancashire and parts of Cumbria bordering the Yorkshire Dales National Park or areas of Bradford, Keighley & Leeds (West Yorkshire) and north-east Lancashire within an hour’s travel of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Youth projects we've supported  

Since the Youth Fund started in 2017 it has supported 33 projects, given out £26.5k and engaged more than 2000 young people.

We fund small-scale ventures that improve or enhance the local natural environment or develop environmental awareness in local communities. We've supported a wide variety of inspiring projects including: 

  • 10 projects that help to increase biodiversity and enhance wildlife spaces
  • 5 recycling projects that save an estimated 162,769 kg of plastic waste going to landfill every year!
  • 9 projects that enhance community green spaces, including schools, gardens and parks
  • 4 conservation projects, including wildlife surveying, eels in the classroom and a school wildlife area
  • Art projects, an eco-festival, school eco club and sustainability group
